Brock Cottage is situated in the lovely village of Gosforth in the Western reaches of the Lake District National Park and within easy reach of Eskdale, Wasdale and Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, and the beach at Seascale is just 10 minutes drive away.

The Wasdale area is synonymous with wonderful walking routes, both high on the fell tops or low to ground through the surrounding farms and along the rivers and breathtaking views in all directions.

Brock Cottage is the larger of two cottages that sit next door, the other being Bramble Cottage (sleeps 2), ideal to book together for an extended family holiday.

The house spans two floors, the floor being open plan and comprising the living room with log-burning fire and the dining room with the large sold-wood dining table. Off the dining room is the well-equipped kitchen, leading to the conservatory and the rear garden.

Upstairs are the two lovely bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, and the family bathroom with a shower and separate bathtub.

Ground Floor:
  • Spacious open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with two three-seat sofas, a wood-burning fire and a TV;
  • Large dining table seats six, great for family meals,
  • Well-appointed kitchen with Oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, plenty of crockery, curltey, pots and pans.
  • Sunny conservatory off of the kitchen.
Upstairs:
  • Bedroom 1 - King-size double bed.
  • Bedroom 2 - Super king-size zip & link bed, which can be a large double or two single beds, with en-suite shower room.
  • Bathroom - With a walk-in shower and a separate bathtub.
Outside:
  • To the front is parking for one car.
  • The rear garden area, accessed via the conservatory, is enclosed with 5.5ft wooden fencing (no little gaps).
  • Bed linen, towels, services, WiFi and a starter wood supply for the log-burning stove are provided.
  • Please note that the internet is rural broadband and not superfast fibre.
  • Brock Cottage welcomes up to four dogs. Additional dogs may be accommodated by prior arrangements. Dogs are allowed on the sofa (please bring and use a clean throw) but not on the beds. Please remove any dog waste from the garden daily.  Dogs may be left for short periods if they are settled and crated. But with so many dog-friendly pubs and restaurants, you and your dogs will feel very welcome. Please keep your dogs on a lead when not in your garden and by the other cottages.
  • Parking for one car only.
  • Infants are welcome, but please note that a travel cot and high chair aren't provided, so you must bring these items with you if required.

Nestled between the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys in the western Lake District, the picturesque village of Gosforth is a hidden gem. With its traditional stone cottages, friendly locals, and stunning scenery, it's the perfect place to relax and unwind on a self-catering holiday.

The village of Gosforth benefits from three local pubs, including the Kellbank, which is just 2-minutes walk from the cottage. A wonderful bakery and a charming cafe called "Yam Frae Yam Cafe" (Home from Home in Cumbrian dialect, in case you were wondering). Budgens convenience store has all the essentials you may need, plus an excellent takeaway section offering hot and cold food.

Local attractions

Gosforth is surrounded by some of the Lake District's most iconic landscapes, including:

  • Wast Water: England's deepest lake, Wast Water, is a must-see for visitors to the area. You can take a walk around the lake shore, or go for a swim in the crystal-clear waters - be warned, the water is cold!.
  • Scafell Pike: England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike is a challenging but rewarding hike. You'll enjoy panoramic views of the Lake District and beyond from the summit.
  • Eskdale and Wasdale valleys: These two valleys are home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District, with rolling hills, lush forests, and picturesque villages. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails to explore, as well as opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing.

In addition to its natural attractions, Gosforth also has a rich history and culture. Visitors can learn more about the village's Viking heritage at the Gosforth Viking Cross, and explore the beautiful St Mary's Church, which dates back to the 12th century.
